The Defiant Ones is a 2017 mini-series by HBO, and it focuses on the past experiences, current lives, and career of two titans of the music industry: Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre. Recently, I watched The Defiant Ones, and I finished it with thoughts that led me to develop this list of lessons I learnt from The Defiant Ones. By merely adopting these five lessons I believe, we can all begin to experience more success.
Every year, millions of people decide in the new year they will become a new me, they will reinvent themselves. New year, new me has become something of a global phenomenon in recent years, but I have a problem with it.
Who said we have to wait till a new year to become a new person? My guess, it’s someone similar to the person who said we have to wait till Thursday to post a photo online.
With that said, let’s jump straight into today’s article but first, make sure to sign up to my new email list to get all the latest articles and news straight to your inbox, so you don’t miss a thing.
At some point in every writer’s life they have experienced writer’s block, simply it’s the temporary inability to write due to lack of knowledge or more commonly a mental block of what you are trying to say. It’s not easy to overcome writer’s block, and some people have given up writing completely because of it.
However, that’s not us; we don’t quit because we don’t know what to write. We will overcome writer’s block and continue our journey. This is a genuine problem and one that must be ended before it claims too many aspiring writers in the world so here is one simple lesson I’ve learnt to deal with writer’s block.
We all want to achieve our goals, we all want to control the end destinations of our journeys. But, by letting others make our decisions, this is exactly what we are forfeiting.
The truth is no-one likes making the tough decisions, no matter if it’s professional or personal. But, the reality is if we don’t make our own decisions then someone else will make them for us.
Me and you, we’re the same. We’re nothing special.
It’s a bitter truth to swallow, but it’s a truth none-the-less.
You may have brown hair, and I may have blonde. You may have blue eyes, and I have brown. We have different backgrounds, different heritage and different lives but we don’t differ on the most important thing of all.
