We spend most of our adult lives living with the idea that we must survive. Every day we’re surviving; going to work on someone else’s terms, earning money we don’t know how to use and paying bills we begrudge. It’s impossible to deny that we are surviving, but we are far from living. We need to stop surviving and start living.

Stop Surviving

Suli Breaks said is best ‘American’t Dream’.

“Shawn Corey Carter said it best
“9 to 5 is how you survive, and I’m not trying to survive.”
So he strived hard for his dream and look where it took him
So bear that in mind next time
You drive pass the arena in Brooklyn”

In that single verse, Suli describes the problem that people all over the world face every single day of their lives.

“9 to 5 is how you survive, and I’m not trying to survive.

Unfortunately, this one line accurately summarises the overwhelming majority of our global workforce.

People are working to survive, not live.

People work to pay bills, to put food on the table, to run a car, and to put their kids through school.

Now, I’m not trying to argue the merits of any of these motives and aims because they’re all necessary in the modern world. However, something is missing from that list.

People are working because they want to.

As a species we have bought into the capitalist ideology of if we want to live, we need money and to do that; we need to work for someone else. This isn’t a problem. But, bear this line in mind next time you contemplate your work.

If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs.

By only surviving, what are we putting on hold?

Our dreams.

Our future.

Our lives.

This isn’t okay; something needs to change.

Start Living

If we want to stop surviving and start living on our terms then we need:

To make choices that support our dreams.

To make a future we want to be part of.

To make a life we want to live.

Life is more than just being a corporate slave building someone else’s dream. Life is about maximising our potential and achieving everything we could ever want. After all:

“Your “playing small” does not serve the world
Because what is our deepest fear — it’s not that we are inadequate
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure”

It all starts with one question.

Are you ready?

Are you ready to take hold of your life?

Are you ready to build your future?

Are you ready to make your dreams a reality?

Are you ready to start living?
